‘This lube oil is suitable for further service’

A sludge & varnish problem might be already at hand if following problems look familiar to you:

These problems most probably originate from turbine oil problems caused by sludge & varnish, which unfortunately are not detected in time using traditional turbine oil tests.

It is a well known fact that the best method to remove from turbine oil is by electrostatic oil cleaner (ELC). For Group I based turbine oils this works well. Gas turbines these days are increasingly lubricated with modern Group II/II+/III based turbine oils. Field experience shows that traditional ELC equipment is less efficient in removal of sludge&varnish from these type of turbine oils.

Ansaldo therefore developed the ECC, an advanced, redesigned ELC based on the same well known principles of particles separation in non-polar fluids using an electrostatic charge. The ECC incorporates enhanced features specifically aimed at modern turbine oils. The result is a device that will remove insolubles more efficient.

From field applications substantial sludge&varnish reduction in turbine oil was determined. In some cases 75% decrease of insolubles in the oil was reported. On average a minimum of 300 ECC cleaning cycles of the turbine oil reservoir volume are required to achieve such results*.

The ECC is self regulated, PLC controlled and uses a user friendly touch screen operator interface with remote monitoring options.

Operating parameters can be easily linked to existing standard remote data monitoring systems.

* Proper selection of ECC size relative to turbine oil volume is essential.
